Custom Residential Design

Our residential design services help create functional, aesthetically pleasing, and cohesive homes. We prioritize a discovery phase that helps us understand your design preferences and needs — and use that understanding to develop a concept that enhances the functionality, comfort, and overall appearance of your home, while also reflecting your personal style.

Our Process

We believe every home should be unique and tailored to the specific needs and desires of its owner. Our team of experienced architects and designers work closely with each client to develop a personalized design that meets their vision while adhering to their budget and timeline. Our process is designed to help you think through your dream home — and then make it a reality.

  • The discovery phase sets the stage for your project. During this phase, our team works with you to understand your needs, preferences, constraints, and design goals. This involves an introductory design consultation to gather information about your lifestyle, budget, and design vision. We also review any existing design plans and conduct site visits to assess the space and understand its potential.

The discovery phase is our opportunity to get to know you and your project, and allows us to process all of the necessary information to create a successful design. This is a collaborative process that involves a lot of communication to ensure the final design meets your needs and reflects your vision.

Often, our team uses this phase to sketch initial spatial concepts and gather preliminary feedback to help refine the design direction before moving into the more focused schematic design phase.

The discovery phase is an opportunity to engage with other professionals who will be involved with the design process — interior designers, landscape architects, general contractors, etc.

  • Using what we learn from the discovery phase, our team will create a series of preliminary design sketches, renderings, and diagrams to illustrate the proposed layout, circulation patterns, access, and overall aesthetic of the home. These sketches may include floor plans, elevations, and renderings to help you visualize the design.

The schematic design phase is typically iterative where we present several options and revisions for your feedback and approval.

As part of a holistic design approach, we encourage engaging all other design professionals during the schematic process.

  • During the design development phase, our team takes the approved schematic design concepts and begins to refine them into a more fully realized plan.

This phase typically produces a set of preliminary plans and documentation that can be used by your construction team to provide a realistic project budget and timeline.

  • Once you approve the final design, we create a comprehensive set of construction documents. This includes foundation plans, framing plans, mechanical plans, electrical plans, plumbing plans, and any special instructions or requirements that will have a material effect on the construction of the home.

  • Once your design is complete and under construction, our team can help keep your project on track by guiding you and your builder to realize your vision accurately, efficiently, and on budget.

This is an optional, additional service that is typically best suited for large-scale, custom homes that include more design complexity and materiality.
